Our position
LiteWork Services has zero tolerance for modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and labour exploitation, in our own business and in the businesses we work with.
Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires a statement only from organisations with a turnover of £36 million or more. We’re a smaller business and publish this statement voluntarily, because the cleaning sector is recognised as higher risk for labour exploitation and we want to be clear about our standards.
Our business
We provide domestic and commercial cleaning services in the UK, including regular, deep, end of tenancy, after-builders, office and short-let cleaning. Our supply chain is small. Our cleans are carried out by self-employed cleaning professionals. Our supply chain is small and consists mainly of cleaning products, equipment, optional branded clothing and business services, bought from established UK suppliers.
How we work with our cleaners
- We check the identity and right to work in the UK of every self-employed cleaner, and of any substitute they send, before they carry out any work, as the law requires.
- Every cleaner signs a written contractor agreement, and sees and agrees the rate for each job before accepting it.
- Fees are paid weekly, directly into each cleaner’s own bank account, never to a third party.
- We never charge joining or introduction fees to cleaners, and we never hold anyone’s passport, identity documents or money.
- Cleaners are free to accept or decline any job, to work for other businesses, and to end their agreement with us at any time.
- We don’t use labour providers or agencies unless we have checked that they follow the same standards.
Spotting and reporting concerns
We know the warning signs of modern slavery and exploitation, such as someone who seems controlled by another person, has no access to their own documents or money, or appears afraid to speak. Anyone, whether a cleaner, client or member of the public, can raise a concern with us confidentially at info@liteworkservices.co.uk, and we’ll act on it.
You can also contact the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700, at any time. In an emergency, call 999.
Our suppliers
We buy from established suppliers and expect them to meet the same standards. If we found evidence of modern slavery in a supplier’s business, we would stop working with them.
Review
We review this statement and our practices every year, and as our business grows.
